Winter 2019 Classes

Come join the fun at Spotlight Theatre Studio!

No matter which class or classes you choose, you'll learn fundamental performance techniques and hone your skills

in a creative and supportive environment led by experienced, passionate instructors.

 

All WINTER 2019 classes will be held in our new home in the 1921 Building

601 4th Street, Brookings, SD 57006.

Theatre Arts I

Grades K-2 | $100

Thursdays | 4:00-4:55 PM | Jan. 10-Feb. 28

 

As the foundational course for Spotlight Theatre Studio, this class will introduce your budding thespian to all things theatre! We will learn fun theatre basics while playing games and building confidence. On the final day of class, we will present a short performance to show parents what we have learned. This class is perfect for young artists who love to perform!

Theatre Arts II | musical

Grades 3-5 | $100

Mondays | 4:00-4:55 PM | Jan. 7-Feb. 25

Thursdays | 5:00-5:55 PM Jan. 10-Feb. 28


Whether you’ve already caught the acting bug or are simply curious about exploring theatre, this class will introduce students to acting basics and musical theatre. Students will gain skills through singing, dancing, monologues, and group scenes. On the final day of class, we will showcase what we have learned in a short performance. This class is perfect for either beginning or intermediate actors.

Theatre Arts II | non-musical

Grades 3-5 | $100

Tues. 4-4:55 PM | Jan. 8 - Feb. 26

Similar to our musical theatre class, but without the musical components. Students will develop acting skills through monologues and group scenes, learning to work as individuals and as an ensemble. On the final day of class, we will showcase what we have learned in a short performance. This class is perfect for either beginning or intermediate actors.

Oral Interp Intensive

Grades 6-12 | $100 

5:00-5:55 PM | Mondays | Jan. 7 - Feb. 25

 

Just in time for the MS oral interp and HS winter forensics season, this intermediate level class is perfect for performers who are interested in learning about oral interpretation and its many individual and group events. Students will hone their acting skills by performing humorous and dramatic scenes, poetry, oratory, and readers’ theatre. On the final day of class, we will showcase what we have learned in a short performance. This class is designed for either beginning or intermediate actors.

Theatre Arts III

Grades 6-12 | $100

5:00-5:55 PM | Tuesdays | Jan. 8 - Feb. 26

This intermediate level class is perfect for middle school actors who have already done some theatre work or for those who are new to acting altogether. Students will hone their acting skills through monologues and group scenes, working as individuals and as an ensemble. On the final day of class, we will showcase what we have learned in a short performance. This class is perfect for either beginning or intermediate actors.

Private Lessons

Grades 6-12 | Wednesdays

3:00-7:00 PM by appointment

30 minutes--$60 / 4 weeks

45 minutes--$75 / 4 weeks

60 minutes--$120 /4 weeks

Private lessons are a great way for a student who has an interest and passion for singing, acting, or dancing to work one-on-one with a professional. Lessons can focus on preparation for an upcoming audition/event or as a way simply to learn and grow as a performer. Students may select their own material, or we can work on anything from contemporary musical theatre to Shakespeare.

Theatre Arts IV | special topics

Grades 6-12 | $100

6:00-6:55 PM | Tuesdays | Jan. 8 - Feb. 26

 

This advanced class is intended for middle school and high school actors who have already done some theatre work. Students will discover the art of character acting and explore the world of stage make-up. On the final day of class, we will present a showcase of all we have learned. This class is intended for experienced actors.
